In the span of eight days, I attended 10 rallies organised by five different political parties.

For first-time voters, attending a rally can be overwhelming, especially for a photographer. A lot can happen at rally sites and every one of them is different from the next. From the massive crowd sizes at WP rallies to SDP’s giant inflatable balls to incomprehensible statements by some candidates, there is always an element of surprise at every rally. At times, it feels impossible to capture the essence of rallies, given the unpredictable nature and flurry of activities.

Yet, with each rally I attended, I realised that there was a resolution. If I took a step away from the mass, I could find patterns and contrasts among the mess. A bite here or a whistle blown there - shapes, actions and ideas are turned into nodes in this web of connections. In this way, as disorienting as they are, the essence of rallies can still be represented.

In chaos, there can still be order.
