Calcium; that’s what Malaysian TV producer Jason Yeoh compared stories to in his TedX talk. We may lose calcium in our body, just like how we may lose stories to time. Yet, if we document them, we will always have a source to refer to.

That sparked something in me; sitting on my chair, then-17-year-old me knew that I wanted to be a curator; a storyteller; a journalist.

Since young, I have always enjoyed creating videos and capturing images. Inspired by YouTubers I had watched - LEGO set reviews, comedy shorts and gaming videos - I began making similar videos when I was 12. It was certainly ambitious but I wanted to share my experiences and thoughts. And on every trip that I went on, I took hundreds of images, even if it was just a trip to the zoo. I knew that while memories may fade, photographs are permanent records of experiences I had and these were things that I treasured.

Eventually, I realised I could combine my interests into a single passion. Capturing memories, sharing ideas and aesthetic visuals - these drive me to pursue a career in visual journalism. Every assignment that I have undertaken has allowed me to piece together beautiful stories for people to treasure and appreciate a different side to life. This sense of purpose is what keeps me going. I love creating visual news features and I’m always looking out for opportunities at news agencies and media companies.
